Ceilings
If
ceilings and walls are to be painted, always paint ceilings
first. Cut in a 2" strip of paint along the wall and
ceiling line with brush before rolling. To prevent lap marks,
paint across he width (not the length) of the ceiling in 3-foot-wide
sections with a roller, slightly overlapping each strip. Then
go back to the starting edge of the room and do another strip
parallel to the first. Use a stepladder or attach an extension
pole to the roller frame.
Woodwork
& Baseboards
Before
painting the walls, paint the woodwork and baseboards with
a trim brush. Cut in top edge of baseboard, then floor edge.
Then apply paint in-between leveling as you go. Use a piece
of aluminum with a straight edge, to protect wall-to-wall
carpet.
Walls
Beginning:
Cut the wall line to the ceiling line with a paint brush,
a roller trim tool, or a pad trimmer (2 to 4 inches wide)
next move down toward corner. Then with a roller begin at
the top of the wall in the corner and work down to the floor
in 2-foot sections to prevent lap marks. Finish by making
a complete ceiling-to-floor stroke.
Doors
If
door has panels and moulding , start at top panel. Do moulding
edges first. Next, paint the remaining panel area by brushing
first across, the up and down. Upon completing all panels,
paint the remaining area and finish with the door edges.
