Surveys show that people across the country are concerned about the health of the environment... about air pollution and the destruction of the ozone layer, hazardous wastes that pollute the water, and the mountains of

garbage produced by disposable products. Canadians are ready to turn that concern into action.

By choosing products that are the least harmful to the environment, consumers can have an immediate and personal influence on the health of the planet.

The Environmental Choice Program was created to help consumers identify products that maximize energy-efficiency and the use of recycled or recyclable materials, and minimize the use of environmentally hazardous substances.

The EcoLogo

How to get rid of paint left-overs?

First, make sure that the product is still in its container, and that the label is still legible. Give it to a relative, a neighbour, an association, etc.

Water-based (latex) paints...

Allow your paint left-overs to dry in an open container. Keep it out of reach of children and animals. When the product is completely dry, contact your city's Department of Environment, they will advise you on how to discard it safely. You will find the number under Waste Management in the Blue Pages of the phone book.

Oil-based (alkyd) paints...

You must never pour your paint left-overs in sanitary or storm sewers or on the ground, since harmful and flammable chemicals might be present.Treat this paint as you would any other dangerous household product. Take advantage of toxic waste collections or communicate with your city's Department of Environment, or contact Waste Management.
